Bruce Rauner Becomes Illinois’ 42nd Governor [AUDIO]

Illinois’ 42nd governor has been sworn into office.

Gov. Bruce Rauner took the oath of office before a crowd of several thousand in the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield Monday, along with other statewide officials. In his first address as governor, he encouraged Democratic lawmakers to work with him, not against him.

“I’ll be asking the legislature to work with me to pass a comprehensive jobs and economics package to get Illinois working again,” Rauner said.

Rauner’s speech was the first of a trio he’ll be making over the next several weeks. He’ll deliver his first State of the State address on Feb. 4, with his first budget address scheduled for two weeks later.

Rauner was the first of four new statewide officials sworn in at the ceremony, along with Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti, Comptroller Leslie Munger, and State Treasurer Michael Frerichs. Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Secretary of State Jesse White, both re-elected in November, also were sworn in to start new terms.
