Bill Concerning Concussions and Young Athletes Heads to Governor

Concussion danger is not just for pro football heroes.
"The kids who are coming in with concussions into the emergency room are 10 t 14 (years old). That's the biggest growing group that has them," said State Rep. Christian Mitchell (D-Chicago), sponsor of a bill that directs school districts to set up "return to play" and "return to learn" protocol for young athletes diagnosed with concussions.
Mitchell, a boxer, says he knows firsthand that it takes a professional to determine whether you are a concussion victim or if you simply have had your bell rung.
S.B. 7 passed the House, 104-1-1, and goes to the governor.
