• Charges have been filed in the 2008 murder of a Rockford woman.  Winnebago County State's Attorney Joe Bruscato announced an indictment against James E. Williams.  Williams faces three charges of first degree murder for the death of Chaundra Davis.  Davis’ body was found in the Rock River in November 2008.
  • The Rockford Fire and Police Commission has released its reasons for not calling for disciplinary action Rockford Police Chief Chet Epperson. The commission’s final report concluded that while a domestic situation  involving former NAACP President Lloyd Johnston and three officers wasn’t handled well by the chief,  the incident did not rise to the level of disciplinary action by the Board.
  • A provision of Illinois' gay marriage law that let same-sex couples backdate marriages to the date of their civil unions is about to sunset. June 1st marks the one-year anniversary of the state's gay marriage law taking effect.
  • The Illinois Department of Employment Security says unemployment fell in every metro area in the state in April. It was the 14th consecutive month of decreases across the state's metro regions. The Rockford metro fell almost two-and-half percent to 5.8%
  • Police confirm a man has died after being stabbed at a barbershop at 1435 Broadway Thursday afternoon.  Police say the man was a customer at the barbershop and reports are after a barber felt threatened, he stabbed the man. The suspect then took off.  Police are still looking for the barber in question.
  • Oregon’s former mayor is making a final attempt to crack an unsolved double homicide dating back to 1948.  Former mayor Mike Arians has been investigating the murders of 17-year old Mary Jane Reed and 28-year old Stanley Skridla for more than 15 years.  Arians hopes Skridla’s exhumation and autopsy will reveal evidence breaking the nearly 67-year old case.  Arians believes a local law enforcement officer who had an affair with Reed may have been the killer.
  • Chicago would get a city-owned casino and new casinos would be added throughout the state under legislation expected to be introduced in the Illinois Senate.  It would add casinos in Chicago's south suburbs, Rockford, Vermilion County and Lake County. It also calls for smaller "satellite" casinos that could be located in Decatur and far southern Illinois.
