• A commuter train operator apparently "dozed off" before Monday's crash at O'Hare International Airport. That's according to federal investigators, who say the woman also admitted falling asleep on the job last month when her train partially missed a station. More than 30 people were hurt Monday when the train barreled off the tracks.
  • Two Detroit men are expected to stand trial in June in the robbery and fatal shooting of an Eastern Michigan University football player. Twenty-year-olds Kristopher Pratt and Ed Thomas are charged with open murder in the death of Demarius Reed of Chicago. He was killed last October at his off-campus apartment building.
  • Governor Pat Quinn today proposed his Fiscal Year 2015 budget. The Governor’s address was highlighted by making the temporary state income tax hike permanent. By maintaining a 5 percent income tax rate, Quinn says it will allow Illinois to balance the budget and properly invest in education.
  • Raising the minimum wage has been a key campaign theme for Governor Pat Quinn, but he didn't mention it in his annual budget speech. Instead, he talked about keeping the state’s temporary income tax increase and relief for homeowners. The Chicago Democrat has said he wants Illinois’ $8.25 rate to be at least $10 by year’s end.
  • Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says he won't cut education funding in the difficult budget year ahead. Quinn says his plan creates a state budget that "properly funds" schools. He also wants more money for early childhood education and community colleges.
  • Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan will call a vote on tax increase this spring. He made the comments today following Governor Pat Quinn’s budget address.  Madigan says he supports Quinn’s plan and praised the governor in asking for the extended tax increase.
