• Two people are hospitalized after a car crosses a median and crashes into a utility pole, leaving one of the occupants in critical condition.  The car was headed east on Auburn near Bluefield when it crossed the median and collided with a utility pole. The driver, a 31-year old Rockford man, is in critical condition. One passenger is in serious condition, another was treated and released.
  • Missouri prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty in the latest in a string of murders in 2008 involving Nicholas Sheley. Sheley has been convicted of a number of Illinois killings, beginning in Sterling, and has gotten life sentences. He was moved to Missouri in February to await trial in the deaths of an Arkansas couple.
  • Veterans dedicated a memorial in Rockford to those who died after being exposed to a chemical used during the Vietnam war to destroy foliage. More than 200 people gathered Sunday for the dedication of the Agent Orange Memorial. The names of seven veterans are on the memorial and more will be added.
  • Gov. Bruce Rauner isn’t weighing in on any bills waiting for signature, except for one he especially dislikes - a bill which would ban strikes and lockouts of public employees, instead sending stalled contract talks to binding arbitration. Rauner says supporting lawmakers voted for “big government, big bureaucracy, insiders’ benefit, and taxpayers losing.”
  •  Governor Bruce Bauner is announcing more contingency plans if the state does not have a balanced budget by July first. The 420 million dollars in cuts includes reducing funding for Amtrak, suspending some capital projects, warning state vendors that payments may be further delayed, and closing the world recreational shooting center in Sparta.  Governor Rauner also says he will not approve a temporary, short term budget while the full spending plan is being negotiated.
  • A Rockford man is treated and released from the hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound.  It happened shortly before seven o'clock Sunday night near Maple and Lee Streets. The victim says he was at the intersection when a black vehicle drove up and shot at his car.  The bullet entered the car and hit him in the thigh.
  • The woman who was killed in a four vehicle crash on I-39 in Rock County has been identified.  She is 26 year old Jessica Lynn Border of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.  Her two children remain hospitalized in serious condition.  Three others were injured slightly.  The woman who caused the crash has been charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
  • A hospital group says Illinois could lease HealthCare.gov if the U.S. Supreme Court strikes down the subsidies that help some people afford health insurance. An Illinois Hospital Association memo released to The Associated Press lays out that option for Gov. Bruce Rauner and state lawmakers. The memo is the clearest plan yet for how Illinois could pass legislation and create a state-based exchange.
