• State comptroller Leslie Munger is warning there will be dire consequences if the state budget impasse continues.  With no budget in sight, Comptroller Munger says it could start to get ugly.  New Medicaid provider payments will stop and state employees will start missing paychecks July 15th.  Munger says some payments will continue, like to the pension system and retiree benefits. The state’s fiscal year ends June 30th. And if the impasse continues into August, Illinois school districts won’t get their state aid payments.
  • The body found floating in the Rock River last Saturday has now been positively as that of 46- year old Michael Spraggins.   The body was identified through dental records.  Spraggins was wanted in the killing of a 41-year-old Rachael Ross-Golden in January.   Police consider the case closed.
  • A Carroll County company has developed a device for rescuing workers trapped in grain bins. Eastland Fabrication in Lanark makes a piece of equipment called the Great Wall of Rescue. The equipment creates a barrier and reduces the pressure. The company has been working on the technology since 2010, when two teenagers died in a grain bin in nearby Mount Carroll.
