• It’s been six years since the deadly campus shooting at Northern Illinois, which led to the killing of five students and the gunman. The school rang five bells this afternoon to remember those who were killed back on February 14, 2008.
  • The suspect in the kidnapping of newborn Kayden Powell will remain behind bars in Iowa. During a court hearing today, Kristen Smith declined to challenge her extradition on a warrant from Texas. Smith is also facing federal kidnapping charges.
  • A teen has been arrested in Rockford after allegedly stealing a car. Officials say 19-year-old Marquadius Turner of Rockford took the car from the area of North Rockton and Garfield. Tuner was eventually apprehended in the 800 block of Garfield Avenue. He’s been charged with possession of a stolen car, resisting a police officer, aggravated battery to a police officer, and aggravated intimidation.
  • Northern Illinois University is awarding five scholarships on the six-year anniversary of a deadly shooting on the school's campus. The "Forward, Together Forward" scholarships will honor the five students killed on Valentine's Day in 2008. Officials say the scholarships are given for strong academic performance and selflessness toward others.
  • The Great Lakes are almost completely covered with ice for the first time in 20 years. The last time they came this close was in 1994, when 94% of the lakes' surface were frozen. As of today, officials report that 87% of the lakes are frozen over.
