A Safari Park an Hour from Rockford Will Open this August

Now this is really cool! Coming this August a safari park will be opening just an hour from Rockford in Wisconsin.

The Journal Times in Racine, WI reports that the former Racine Zoo CEO, Jay Christie, will opening in August "Safari Lake Geneva".

A 75 acre park filled with free roaming animals like bison, camels, zebras, antelope and more that visitors will get to view from specially made wagons that modified to provide the best viewing options of these animals in their habitats.

He's been acquiring animals from zoos and private breeders to represent every continent for the park except Antarctica. Upon opening he'll have about 70 but he hopes to have 150 or more.

Christie says that each safari tour will be about hour riding around the park viewing the animals with some areas for walk through exhibits. Also, while waiting for your tour there will be an area where visitors can view "wallabies, Patagonian cavies, “an assortment” of goats, African crowned cranes, various ducks and guinea fowl."

His plan is to have the park open seven days week once open this August. Admission prices haven't been finalized as of yet but will be soon. He also has plans to create special VIP packages where patrons can take a "tour around sunset, and down the road he wants to be able to offer catered dinners."

Just think in a little over an hours drive from Rockford you can be on a guided safari tour. It's like the mid west's answer to Busch Gardens minus the amusement park rides of course. I can't wait to check this  place out.
