911 In Danger Of Disappearing In Parts Of Illinois
If a new bill doesn't pass that currently sits on Governor Bruce Rauner's desk, 9-1-1 in some parts of Illinois may disappear.
That's because Illinois' "emergency system will lose funding on June 30" says Fox 55/27. That means, "911 centers in some parts of the state are at risk of losing dispatch services" according to Mystateline.com.
The proposed bill is asking for more funding that would come from cell phone users. For Rockford cell phone users, WAND17 says "The (current) fee would go from 87 cents, to $1.50." That's not much when it keeps 9-1-1 services open statewide.
However, while Governor Rauner is reviewing the proposed measure, a spokesperson tells CBS 2 Chicago, the governor "has serious concerns about raising fees on taxpayers across the state."
