There's a lot happening in Springfield this week as lawmakers attempt a fix for the current fiscal year's budget and conduct hearings on a numbers of issues that impact the 2016 spending plan.

State Senator Tim Bivins joined us on the show this week to discuss a number of topics. We touched on the news that Rockford's proposed Amtrak service appears to be derailed (OK, pun intended) and the controversy surrounded former Governor Pat Quinn's $10 million grant to the Chicago film company Cinespace.

And despite some predictions in the media the Governor Bruce Rauner would be in over his head when working in Springfield, Sen. Bivins agreed that this 2015 budget fix should be considered the first big "win" of his time in office. Here's our full conversation with State Sen. Tim Bivins:
