Christie Stops in Chicago Area to Build Support for 2016
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says he and Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner are comparing notes on how to lead states with divided government.
Christie spoke Thursday before nearly 1,000 people at a Lincoln Day dinner held in suburban Chicago. The then Republican Governors Association chairman visited Illinois nine times last year to boost the campaign of Rauner, Illinois' first GOP governor in more than a decade.
This year's Illinois visit comes as Christie builds support for a potential 2016 run. His backers recently launched a political action committee allowing him to raise money and pay for travel. He was in Iowa this week.
Christie says his straightforward style is what's needed.
He blasted President Barack Obama's leadership, including his plan to authorize military force against Islamic State fighters. Christie says Obama reversed course.
