• Stateline area chain restaurants are providing free and discounted meals to veterans today. ON this Veteran's Day 2014, Applebee's and Chili's are offering free meals from a special menu to those who have served. Additionally, Golden Corral is offering a free dinner buffet, IHOP is serving free red, white, and blue pancakes, and finally Texas Roadhouse nationwide served up free lunches earlier today to veteran's as well.
  • Rockford Police are searching for a man who caused a hit and run accident that sent three people to the hospital. Police say a Chevy Malibu hit another vehicle near the corner of 15th street and 15th avenue yesterday afternoon. Two white males and two black females were in the fleeing Chevy. Anyone with information is asked to call Rockford police.
  • Stateline area temps will plunge by the end of the day and rain will change to light snow. Temperatures were at the 50 degree mark at day break, lows tonight will be in the 20s.
  • Governor Pat Quinn and Governor-elect Bruce Rauner are taking part in Chicago's annual Veterans Day ceremony at Soldier Field. It's Quinn's first public appearance since conceding the election last week. Other attendees include Mayor Rahm Emanuel and U.S. Senator Mark Kirk.
  • The House Ethics Committee is extending an investigation of Illinois Congressman Bobby Rush. The panel says the Chicago Democrat likely violated House rules by accepting free office space that was used by his campaign. Rush says he's cooperated with the investigation from the start and remains hopeful of "a mutually agreeable resolution."
  • The government has lowered the estimate for the nation's corn crop from last month but says Illinois farmers will average 200 bushels per acre. The Department of Agriculture boosted the forecast for soybean yields in Illinois and Iowa. Illinois has the highest yield expected with 56 bushels per acre.
  • On this Veteran’s Day, State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is trying to reunite veterans and their families with lost items. They include medals, ribbons, dog tags and paperwork left in unclaimed safe-deposit boxes. Rutherford says his office has 120 unclaimed military medals in the Capitol vault in Springfield. The Operation Reunite section of the treasurer's website lists people last connected with the safe-deposit boxes.
  • The Veterans Foundation of Illinois has received a $50,000 donation from Walmart to help Veterans. Also, the retail giant is providing immediate employment opportunities for transitioning veterans. Walmart announced the hiring of nearly 19 hundred Veterans in the last 18 months, since the inception of the program.
