• Rockford Police officers have arrested a suspect in an early morning vehicle burglary. They discovered that the individual was attempting to sell a Nintendo DS game on the street that had been stolen from a car in the 1900 block of Kishwaukee street. 26 year old, Shane Dobnick was charged with burglary and criminal damage to a motor vehicle.
  • Rockford Police officers responded to a burglary in progress yesterday in the 1000 block of 16th street. Responding officers apprehended a 16-year old juvenile in the area and determined that he was attempting to force entry in to the residence. The juvenile was charged with attempted residential burglary and criminal damage to property.
  • A Sycamore man has won $1 million in the lottery.  Ahmad Qarah won the Aug. 15th drawing of the Mega Millions.  He matched five numbers via a quick pick. Qarah plans to share some of his winnings with his parents, as well as buy a new home in Sycamore.
  • Smokers looking to get their fix in public places in the city of DeKalb are out of luck. The DeKalb City Council voted 5-3 in favor of banning smoking on outdoor patios at public places.  The ban includes restaurants and bars.  E-Cigarettes also fall under the ban.  
  • Pregnant women in Illinois will have new workplace protections beginning next year. Governor Pat Quinn has signed a measure expanding protections, including limits on manual labor for women who are pregnant and break space for breast feeding.
  • Governor Pat Quinn says it was up to his transportation secretary to follow employment rules even when hiring candidates the governor's office favored. The Chicago Democrat said Tuesday his cabinet members "have a duty to make sure that they comply with the rules that I've set down" and are accountable for that. Quinn was responding to questions about an investigative report released Friday by the Office of the Executive Inspector General.
  • The Illinois Department of Transportation is joining the Illinois State Police, and the Rockford Police Department to strongly warning motorists to “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” during the Labor Day Weekend holiday. IDOT is discussing a new advertising campaign that uses digital and social media to reach those drivers who are most-often involved in drunk driving crashes. A press conference will be held tomorrow morning at the Rockford Police Department.  
  • A federal parolee suspected in a stabbing death earlier this month in west-central Illinois has been arrested in McHenry County. Twenty-nine-year-old Christopher Croom of Chicago was arrested Monday in Lake in the Hills. Croom is wanted in the death of a man who was stabbed in Galesburg on August 13th and died of his injuries four days later.
