One of the very coolest things about the Perseid Meteor Showers is that in addition to being one of the most popular meteor showers of the year, the Perseids hang around for almost a month and a half.

If you enjoy looking at the sky for a celestial show, you should know that Illinois is getting a chance to see not one, but two lunar eclipses this year. The first one happens this Sunday night, and best of all, at a fairly reasonable hour.

If it seems as though it was only a week or so back that Rockford was treated to not one, but two meteor showers going on at the same time, it's because it was only a week or so back.

Looking back over the first half of the year, 2021 has been chock-full of interesting celestial events that have been visible to Rockford and the Rockford area. We're not done yet.

It's been going on since last Friday, April 16th, but our best chance at getting a decent look at the Lyrid Meteor Showers in the Rockford area should be this Thursday in the early morning hours.

As we told you a couple of weeks back, the "Christmas Star," last seen about 800 years ago, is going to make a return to the skies on December 21st, which just happens to be the first day of winter.

It may seem odd, but some of those streaks in Rockford's night time skies aren't snowflakes--April is Lyrid Meteor Shower time once again.
