Looking at the calendar, you've got to wonder if this Salmonella outbreak could have come at a worse time. In a week devoted to food and cooking, an onion problem remains big.
The ongoing Salmonella outbreak that's been concerning to Illinois residents and the entire country has grown from 592 infections to 652, and has added another state reporting infections, making it now 37 states being affected.
It's not going away. The multistate outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg infections has grown to 592 infections in 36 different states, including Illinois and Wisconsin.
Earlier this week, we told you about the multi-state Salmonella outbreak, and how of the 29 states reporting cases of Salmonellosis, Illinois had the third most behind Texas and Oklahoma. Those numbers have now grown.
Last week, we told you that Italian-style meats were being linked to a Salmonella outbreak happening in Illinois, along with 16 other states. At the time, no brand name had been identified as being the source. Now, they have.
Today is just not a good day for food news. First, we find out that there will very likely be a shortage of Thanksgiving Day turkeys, and now we're being told that Italian-style meats (which I love) are being linked to Salmonella outbreaks in 17 states, including Illinois.
Normally, when you hear about a food product being recalled, it's because of a singular issue like Salmonella, listeria, E. Coli, etc. Like I said, "normally." But, not always.
Over the past month or so we've seen food product recalls of salads, pet foods, and muffins, all for different reasons. Two had a problem with Salmonella, another involved the potential for listeria. Now comes another recall, and this time it's beef.
