I got an email yesterday from my longtime friend, Jen Bowman, P.R. and Marketing Director for the Rock River Valley Blood Center. Jen got right to the point in that email by saying: "We need blood badly!! Do you have any time for me tomorrow morning?"

When you've been hit with a lot of cold, snow, and ice, then you add in the start of flu season, the equation boils down to this: area blood supplies are way down, and the Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) needs your help.

If there's one thing that the federal government does really well, it's dumping mountains of regulations on its citizenry. The bureaucrats in charge would tell you it's all for our own good, to keep us safe and healthy. Those tasked with implementing those regulations are not always in agreement.

As we've pointed out in this space before, it's been a tough summer for blood donations at the Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC). With Labor Day weekend almost upon us, the RRVBC is once again calling for some help.

As I mentioned a while back in this space (Before Memorial Day Weekend, Please Visit the Rock River Valley Blood Center), the Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) really, really needs your help. Many of you responded, but the need is still there. If anything, it's gotten greater.

I just finished chatting with my friend Jennifer Bowman of the Rock River Valley Blood Center. Jen pointed out to me (so I'll share with you) that as Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start to the summer season, it's also the beginning of a time period that has the largest need of blood donations.

As you may already know, the demand for blood goes up significantly when the weather gets warmer and nicer. More people out and about, engaging in summertime activities, means more accidents and injuries requiring blood and blood products...

The Rock River Valley Blood Center is pulling out all the stops to convince you to donate blood over the summer. That is, if the possibility of saving a life isn't enough to get you in the door. Beginning Wednesday, May 27, and running through September 9, the RRVBC will feature “Hot Dog Wednesdays" at donor centers in Rockford and Belvidere with hot dogs and fixings for donors...
