Gas prices across Illinois and Indiana are on the rise heading into April with drivers paying significantly more than they did both last month and last year.
No, it's not your imagination. If you've been feeling the pinch in your wallet at the gas pump, it's because gas prices here in the Rockford area have made a jump of more than 20 cents in the last week.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey's smackdown of the Houston area, we were warned that gas prices would certainly be on the rise because of the extensive damage and flooding to the gasoline refineries in that area. It was also suggested by some that higher prices and shortages could last for months. Only part of that came true.
It's not your imagination. You actually are paying more for a gallon of gas today than you did last month, and almost 25 cents more than you did last year at this time. And yes, the rise in prices is continuing.
From our "could you media people please give us some good news for once" department comes the following bit of positive info: last month, home sales prices in Rockford hit their highest level since December of 2008.
It's not much, but every little bit helps. After rising at the beginning of January, pump prices are back on the decline in Illinois and northern Indiana heading into February. We're looking at lower prices than last month, but we're still up from this time last year.
I recently posted in this space about how you could win $10,000. If you missed it, click here for details on how to win.
Part of that post covered prices for different items, going back 100, 75, 50, and 25 years. The prices for cars, homes, and gasoline really jumped out at me, especially gasoline...
That's a great question. One way to find out is to enter our contest, because you could win $10,000. After you win, you can figure out what the 10 grand could purchase.
First things first. Here's the details, and how you can enter. I'll wait...
