Perseid Meteor Showers

We just experienced the Sturgeon Supermoon on August 1st, but the skies over Illinois aren't even close to being done putting on a show this month. Still to come are the Perseid Meteor Showers and a Full Blue Moon before we move into September.

For those skywatchers keeping score at home, the fourth and final super moon of 2022, known as the Sturgeon Moon, will happen this Thursday, August 11th, at around 8:36pm local time.

One of the very coolest things about the Perseid Meteor Showers is that in addition to being one of the most popular meteor showers of the year, the Perseids hang around for almost a month and a half.

If it seems as though it was only a week or so back that Rockford was treated to not one, but two meteor showers going on at the same time, it's because it was only a week or so back.
