Illinois food recalls

Deli meats, vegetables, cans of coffee, frozen chicken, apple juice, and eggs have all been recalled for various reasons over the last few months, now we can add waffles to the list, but for a different reason than all the others.

Over the last couple of months, we've had recalls due to listeria, arsenic, botulism, and metal fragments. Now, salmonella has entered the discussion and you'll need to check your eggs.

We've really had a bunch of food product recalls to deal with over the last few months, and there doesn't appear to be much a a late-summer slowdown. From vegetables to eggs to deli meats to apple juice, this is a good time to pay attention to the various food product recall notices we've been getting.

It seems like just yesterday that we were talking about massive recalls of vegetables and deli meats due to fears of listeria contamination. Oh, wait...that was just yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that. If it seems like there have been a lot of food recalls lately, it's because there have been. Now, nearly 100 tons of frozen chicken is being recalled. But, not for listeria. Something just as bad.

It seems like we've been getting an announcement every day about some food product that's being recalled for various reasons. There's the whole listeria-related recall situation that involves both deli meat and vegetables, and now we're looking at concerns over arsenic levels in apple juice products that were sold in over 20 states, including Illinois.

Class-1 Risk recalls are the FDA's most severe recall warnings when it comes to foods and food products, and something we should all pay attention to.

If you've been paying attention, the word "listeria" is being seen and used more over the last couple of months than I've seen it used in years. We're currently also dealing with listeria worries in vegetables, but the biggest concern is the listeria outbreak from deli meats that has already killed an Illinois and New Jersey resident.

A Listeria outbreak that is likely linked to meats sliced at deli counters has caused two deaths and 28 illnesses requiring hospitalization across 12 states. The bigger problem is that authorities aren't sure of the exact source of the outbreak.
