Illinois is poised to get some wild weather this week including high winds, rain, thunderstorms, and even snow!

Fake Spring in Illinois

I'm a firm believer that there are 6 phases of spring in Illinois, and even though the first official day of the season isn't until March 20, I think we are currently sitting in between phase 3, (fake spring), and phase 4, (second winter). I also believe this past weekend's weather was enough to validate my point...

If you've lived in Illinois long enough, the rollercoaster weather we see each spring should not be surprising, but that doesn't mean it makes it easy to endure.

It's wild to think that just a few days ago I was walking around my yard in a t-shirt and flip flops giving my husband a hard time about still having a snow shovel propped on our front porch. I may have jinxed us, and for that I'm truly sorry.

'Meteorological March Madness' in Illinois

Today I saw WIFR's Chief Meteorologist Mark Henderson refer to this week's forecast as "meteorological March Madness" and after reading this I totally understand why.

Basically, if all things stay on course, the first day of Spring is going to be covered in snow. Not cool.

FYI, the US National Weather Service agrees....

It may still be too early to say how much snow is going to fall, but I'm guessing one inch of sticking snow isn't out of the question.

I guess we may still need that shovel by our front door after all.
