Rockford Schools and Streets Rocked by Violence
Chaos erupted at a high school in Rockford as law enforcement responded to a large fight at the school on Friday (9/20).
Large Fight Breaks Out at Auburn High School
According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, officers responded to Auburn High School around 11:45 am on Friday after school administration put the school on lockdown.
Officers were able to diffuse the situation, but tensions escalated later in the day, which led to another police response to the school.
Four Students Taken Into Custody After School Brawl
Four students were taken into custody by the Rockford Police on Friday following a fight at Auburn High School and were subsequently released to their parents or guardians.
After reviewing the events, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized several charges against the involved juveniles.
Notably, a 16-year-old male faces serious allegations, including aggravated battery to a police officer, while three others, aged 14 to 17, were charged with resisting arrest.
Violent Carjacking Shakes Rockford Community
On Saturday, Rockford Police were dispatched to the 5200 block of Wilderness Trail for a vehicular hijacking report around 3:40 a.m.
According to the report, Two women parked in their vehicle were approached by two armed assailants who demanded their car. Fortunately, law enforcement quickly located the stolen vehicle, leading to a dramatic pursuit that ended with a crash on Main Street.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Javion Morehead, was apprehended after a short foot chase, where police recovered a loaded firearm equipped with an automatic switch. Morehead now faces multiple charges, including aggravated vehicular hijacking and armed robbery.
Community Urged to Stay Vigilant
These incidents highlight a growing concern about youth violence and crime in Rockford. Authorities remind the public that all accused individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
