
Rockford Police Arrest Two on Weapon Charges After Gang Unit Investigation
Two men have been arrested after a Rockford Police gang unit investigation, which led to the recovery of a loaded handgun and rifle, with multiple felony charges filed.
Arrests Made During Early-Morning Operation
According to a Rockford PD press release, detectives assigned to the Gang and Narcotics Units arrested two Rockford men following a brief investigation that unfolded early Tuesday morning (1/6).

Detectives took Clarence Jones, 20, into custody in the 600 block of West State Street on outstanding warrants. During the arrest, officers located and recovered a loaded handgun.
Authorities also detained a second individual, Demarland Rollins, 21, at the scene. Police say both arrests are connected to an ongoing investigation involving illegal firearms possession in Rockford.
Search Warrant Leads to Additional Weapon Recovery
A short time after the initial arrests, detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2000 block of South Johnson Avenue. During the search, investigators recovered a loaded rifle that was believed to be connected to the case.
Following a review of the evidence, the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office authorized multiple felony charges against both men. Jones and Rollins were both lodged in the Winnebago County Jail, according to the press release.
Charges Authorized by State’s Attorney
Clarence Jones is charged with an outstanding warrant for unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon with no valid FOID card, two additional counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, no valid FOID, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

Investigation Ongoing
Police note the investigation remains active and additional charges or arrests are possible. All charges are accusations, and both individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
