One Big Change is Coming to All Illinois Portillo’s Locations This Month

For some people, cash is still King, but it won't be soon at Portillo's drive-thrus throughout Illinois. In an effort to make its drive-thru process even smoother, Portillo's will no longer be accepting cash payments in any of its drive-thrus.

Portillo's Announces Big Change to Drive-Thru Ordering

I happen to be one of those people who never carry cash, and if I do, it's never very much. Certainly not enough to pay for lunch or dinner at Portillo's, so this new change the company is making to their drive-thru ordering process won't affect me much...but it may affect you.

According to NBC 5 Chicago, Portillo's announced on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, that all of its restaurant locations will stop accepting cash for drive-thru orders beginning January 16, 2023. Portillo's is hoping this change will make the drive-thru ordering process faster for customers and safer for their employees at the same time.

Is Portillo's Saying 'No' to Cash Completely?

If you absolutely refuse to pay for food with a credit or debit card and now fear your days of eating delicious Portillo's food are coming to an end, don't worry, Portillo's will still accept cash as payment...inside the restaurant. Crisis averted!

If getting out of your car, going inside the restaurant, and paying for your Italian Beef sandwich and a slice of chocolate cake isn't ideal every time you need to satisfy your Portillo's fix, perhaps you should just load up on some Portillo's gift cards that can be redeemed in the drive-thru right now?
