Calling all party animals and biking lovers! A brand new way to experience the outdoors and socialize with friends is hitting the streets of Northern Illinois: beer bikes!

What Is a Beer Bike, aka Pedal Bike?

Pedal bikes, also called Beer Bikes or Pedal Taverns, are a new fun trend sweeping the nation that take small social gatherings to a whole new level...on wheels!

A pedal bike is just what it looks like...a small bar that you have you to pedal to get down the road. Basically, you get to drink cocktails, have fun with friends, AND get your exercise in all at the same time!

You've probably seen pedal bikes going down the road of hot tourist cities like Las Vegas or Chicago, but now the Rockford area gets to experience this unique brand of fun.

Northern Illinois' First Pedal Tavern Is Hitting the Streets of Byron and Winnebago

Pedal Bike Ride is a new, locally-owned business that offers a cool new way to enjoy social gatherings.

The owner of Pedal Bike Ride, Robb Firch, told WREX;

We are excited to bring this new and vibrant activity to the Winnebago and Byron communities. Our goal is to offer an unforgettable experience where people can connect, celebrate, and explore their town in a whole new way.

What to Expect on a Pedal Bike Ride

I don't know about you, but I am pretty fascinated by the idea of a bar on wheels, but I do have a few questions that I found answers to on Pedal Bike Ride's website;

  1. How many people can the pedal bike fit? 15 people (12 with access to pedals, 3 spaces without).
  2. Can I bring my own cocktails? Yes! The bike has its own sound system and places to hold drinks, but the refreshments are on you.
  3. Who steers the bike? While all passengers need to help power the bike by pedaling, Pedal Bike Ride does provide a driver/tour guide that handles steering and safety.

Pedal Bike Ride tours last two hours and sessions are available to book on certain days starting at 7 a.m. and running through sunset. Get more information about pricing and available dates at pedalbikeride.com.
