It's been a while since we've had rain, but that's about to change over the next 48 hours.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, the Rockford region could get severe storms late Wednesday night (8/14) that could continue through the start of the weekend.

Storms and heavy rain could cause flash flooding overnight Wednesday and into Thursday morning, with another 70 percent chance of rain on Thursday night, according to the NWS.

The weekend will start with a 40 percent chance of more thunderstorms and showers on Friday, then a slight chance that storms may continue on Friday night (8/16).

Saturday is supposed to be Sunny during the day with highs in the upper 70s, and still a chance there could be thunderstorms after 1 pm, according to the latest NWS forecast for the Rockford region.

After thunderstorms through the weekend, the Weather Channel's extended forecast for Rockford predicts temperatures in the lower 80s for most of next week.

Some Forecasts Predicting Risk for Tornadoes, Big Storms

According to Weather On The Go, the entire state of Illinois could be in a slight risk category for dangerous, severe weather on Thursday (8/16) as the storms move across the plains on Wednesday.

Those storms could bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and a possible tornado late Wednesday night into the overnight hours Thursday morning for northern Illinois.
