Illinois Nearly Tops List For Most STDs In The United States
Illinois almost topped another in 2022 and this one doesn't come with bragging rights. A similar report came out two years prior and the Land of Lincoln didn't get the best grade at that time either. Although there was a bit of good news for one city in Illinois, I guess.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention revealed the STD rates for the largest U.S. cities for 2022 after a yearlong hiatus related to the COVID-19 pandemic. A lot can change in a two-year period but this is not good.
The cities with the most total STD cases (HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea) in the US are:
- California (399,673 total cases reported)
- Texas (294,055 total cases reported)
- New York (268,674 total cases reported)
- Florida (259,033 total cases reported)
- Georgia (145,445 total cases reported)
Where Does Illinois Rank On The STD/United States Chart?
Chicago's STD rate increased from 40th in the US to 36, taking population size into consideration along with STD, HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis cases. Also on the list, Peoria dropped from the #16 highest STD rate in the United States, to number 31.
There is a bit of good news for two cities in Illinois, Champaign dropped the top 150 list, it had been listed at 50 in 2020. Rockford had sat at 63rd highest, with 932 STD cases per 100,000 people. 26 reported HIV, 1980 chlamydia, 659 gonorrhea, and 9 syphilis cases, but is also not included in the stop 150.
