Don't feel bad, because I think that's been all of us at least once in our lives, right? Even Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias must have had it happen to him, because he announced that Apple iPhone users will be able to access their ID from their phone.

Illinois Drivers Get a Major iPhone Upgrade

The great news for drivers in Illinois comes just a few days after Apple unveiled its brand-new digital ID system that lets users add their US Passport to Apple Wallet for scanning at airport readers, which I, for one, think is an incredible advancement.

Even better, the IDs will be valid at TSA checkpoints too.

Why You Still Need the Physical Card

That said, there are a few things you should know, like it won't just replace your driver's license. That means, if you do get pulled over, the police will still ask to see your physical card.

Bars and restaurants will also accept digital IDs and licenses, but I'm willing to guess that it will be on a case-by-case basis.

When Digital IDs Start Rolling Out in Illinois

As for when this whole thing starts rolling out, it begins tomorrow at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning for Apple iPhone users. Samsung and Google phones will be next year, according to NBC 5 in Chicago.
