Millions of dollars in life insurance benefits go unclaimed each year, but the Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI) is working to change that.

According to a press release from the IDOI, the Life Policy Locator service has helped reunite families with over $8.5 million in lost or unclaimed life insurance policies and annuities this year alone.

The IDOI requires insurance companies to attempt to locate beneficiaries, but the Life Policy Locator can be a valuable resource for those who may not even know a policy exists.
