With the bitter cold temperatures and snowy conditions that are expected through parts of the Midwest for the next couple of weeks, it's time to break out those world-famous chili recipes.

Our offices have an annual SOUPer Bowl competition coming up to see which co-worker has the best concoction and I expect there to be a selection of chili in the mix, but there are some ingredients I prefer in my chili that may be taboo for others.

I don't know if this is as big of an Illinois no-no as ketchup on a hot dog, but I love to put noodles in my chili. Elbow, spaghetti, it doesn't matter what kind, as long as there are noodles.

According to a new survey by ShaneCo.com that asked more than 2,000 U.S. residents what they like in their chili, on their chili, and with their chili.

What does Illinois like IN their chili?

Chili in Illi must have ground beef in it with a "combo of black, pinto, and kidney beans" and be more spicy than sweet, according to the survey. We prefer to cook our Illinois chili in a crockpot.

  4. Crushed Crackers

According to this survey, we enjoy a side of cornbread with our chili in Illinois, over other favorites like crackers or grilled cheese.
