ComEd is dedicating millions to help Illinois residents, businesses, and public agencies afford electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, with a focus on equity communities.

The utility company says the money will help residential customers, businesses, and public sector fleets offset the upfront costs of buying electric vehicles and installing charging infrastructure.
Equity a Central Focus in Northern Illinois
The EV rebates are divided into three programs: a Residential EV Charger and Installation Program, a Business and Public Sector EV Purchase Program, and a Make-Ready Program to support charging station buildouts.
Officials say these incentives are designed to make EV ownership more accessible at a time when demand for electric transportation continues to rise across Illinois.

More than half of the available funds will be reserved for applicants from or serving low-income and equity communities. Those customers may qualify for larger rebates to help bridge affordability gaps, a priority aligned with Illinois' 2021 Climate and Equitable Jobs Act.
Public Outreach Expands at Chicago Auto Show
ComEd is planning to promote its EV rebate program during the Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place, February 7 through 16. Attendees can test drive EVs and speak directly with company representatives.
An electric school bus, bucket truck, and interactive EV toolkit will also be showcased during the Chicago Auto Show.

ComEd first launched its EV rebate efforts in 2023, citing cost as the biggest barrier to adoption. Since then, registrations have surged. Illinois now has more than 160,000 EVs on the road, with about 90 percent located in ComEd's service territory.
