5 Things Illinoisans Must Do in Wisconsin This Summer

Each year every Illinoisan heads to Wisconsin at least once, and there are five things we must do when we go there this summer.

Why Do Illinoisans Love Wisconsin?

Have you ever wondered why Illinoisans love Wisconsin so much even though many Wisconsinites dread seeing our license plates cross the border? (lol!)

Illinois has plenty of beaches and lakes to enjoy...we have beer and cheese here too, so what's up with Illinois' love for our northern neighbor? Is it because they like to drink more in Wisconsin and have cheaper gas?

I think it really all comes down to vacation mentality. Wisconsin is pretty close to home, so many Illinoisans can escape there for a weekend getaway.

Sure, we can put our boats in Illinois waters to enjoy a fun weekend, but something just hits different about being on the water in Wisconsin. Maybe it's because your brain knows you're not a home and lets you relax even more?

Either way, I'm willing to bet every person I know that lives in Illinois will head to Wisconsin at least once this summer, and I want to make sure we all enjoy our trip there thoroughly.

A Wisconsin Bucket List for Illinois Residents

Today I found an article from Road Trip USA about things to do in Wisconsin at any point during the year, but here are 5 things I think should be put on an Illinoisans' summer in Wisconsin bucket list::

1. Go to a Wisconsin supper club, eat fish, and drink Old Fashioneds 

Wisconsin is full of cool supper clubs to visit, but many people say Ishnala Supper Club in Lake Delton is one of the best.

2. Go to Door County and Take a Ferry to Washington Island and/or Visit the Apostle Islands Seashore

There are a ton of fun things to do and see in Door County, but Schoolhouse Beach on Washington Island with its clear blue water and limestone rock beach is something awesome to see.

3. Take a Brewery Tour

Wisconsin has many cool breweries to tour and enjoy, but tours of the New Glarus Brewing Company (hello, Spotted Cow!) and Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee are two of the most popular.

4. Take a Boat Tour on the Wisconsin River

If you're in the Wisconsin Dells area, Dells Boat Tours offers several different tour options with amazing views. Also, don't forget about the Duck and Jetboat tours too!

5. Visit a Wisconsin Dells Waterpark

With so many to choose from, if you've been to a Wisconsin Dells waterpark before during the colder months, it's time to go back and experience all the outdoor fun they offer as well!
