I took a look at the very long list of new laws and tried to highlight some of the more important ones. Also, I picked out a few that affect the most residents. Take a glance at them so you have an idea of what to expect this year.

  • Minimum wage goes up to $15/hour, $9 for tipped workers, and $13 for under 18.
  • Elimination of subminimum wage for disabled workers.

  • Salary and benefits required to be posted on job listings.

  • Digital driver's licenses are now allowed on your phone.
  • 8-year license available for qualified drivers.
  • Mandatory work meetings where political or religious matters are shared, employees are allowed to skip.

  • Limit companies from using predictive AI for hiring.

  • DNA from crime victims can't be included in database.

  • Autism-awareness training for police.

  • Property tax study is required.

  • VIN needed for catalytic converter recyclers.

  • Drivers must yield right of way to emergency vehicles.

  • Help for juveniles to clear criminal records.
  • Position of Illinois Pretrial Services Director created.
  • Hotels banned from using single-use plastic bottles.
  • Medically prescribed hearing aids must be covered by insurance.
  • $60 price cap for Epinephrine injectors twin pack.
  • Gym memberships allowed to be canceled online.
  • Recovered stolen vehicles will not incur storage fees if recovered within 7 days.
  • Free trials longer than 15 days must email reminder 3 days before cancelation.
  • Free replacement if license plates are stolen.
  • Terms must be given upfront when offering veteran or military benefits for a fee.
