Illinois Police Make Bust At Famous Movie Motel

A famous movie motel in Illinois recently received some publicity but it wasn't for a good reason.

I grew up in the west suburbs of Chicago. I went to college at Illinois State University in Normal. Over the years, I made many many trips between the two on I-55. Once, I got passed the Joliet area, there wasn't much to see except farmland.

If there was anything, it stuck out like a sore thumb so it wasn't hard to miss. One of those landmarks was a little motel in the middle of nowhere. It's the Braidwood Motel in Braidwood. For the first couple of years, everytime I drove by it I thought the place looked familiar.

My friends and I finally figured it out. It was the motel in the movie "Trains, Planes, And Automobiles." It was where Steve Martin and John Candy had their "those aren't two pillows" moment. In the film, it was called Edelen's Braidwood Inn. I'm a big fan of the flick so I was excited to find out.

Nowadays, it's called the Sunset Motel. I've never been there but I'm going to guess it doesn't get a good score on Yelp. The place is kinda shady looking. Unfortunately, the business was recently in the news and it wasn't a good thing.

In the middle of the day, a couple was arrested for being naked and doing the nasty in a car at the motel parking lot. The woman was 33 and the man was 74. He probably can't drive in the dark so that's why it happened in the daylight.

The female suspect had drugs on her and surprise surprise, she has multiple prior arrests. There's a good chance that she's a prostitute. She'll be going to jail for a while.
