Illinois Hidden Gem Among The World’s 50 Greatest Pizzerias

At the top is Una Pizza Napoletana in New York, followed by Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria in Naples, Italy.

Considering the sheer amount of pizza on the planet, it's a feat that one pizza place in Illinois made the list.

If you look closely at the top 10 to 20 pizza places, they are in Tokyo, Japan; Milan, Italy; San Bonifacio, Italy; Barcelona, Spain; and Rome, Italy.

All of those are food meccas when it comes to pizza or otherwise.

The Illinois pizza place that earned a spot in the top 50 is Robert's Pizza & Dough.

Located at 456 North McClurg Court, it's a shock to see a restaurant like Robert's on the list when it's usually a foregone conclusion to see foodie darling Pequod's, the typical Illinois place to get included in national lists.

That was until today when the Guide to the Best Pizzerias in the World was released, completely changing the game.

With nearly 1000 reviews on Yelp, Robert's Pizza and Dough scores 4.3 out of 5.

Top reviews mention the speed of service, the amazing location, and the price (considering where the restaurant is located.)

Obviously, reviewers have raved about the pizza, calling the thin-crust pizzas "totally worth it" and mentioning the great appetizers on the menu.

The biggest revelation on this list is that I had never heard of Robert's Pizza and Dough until today.
