She's right, it's not a question that sounds appetizing. The gas station food game is different now. It's not just throwing a plastic-wrapped burrito in a microwave, or an old banana in a basket.

It's now common to hear someone say they prefer a particular gas station's food over a restaurant.

I needed others' opinions as I haven't eaten my way around all the gas stations in the area. On some of these I 100% agree, on the other most-often mentioned gas stations, I can't wait to get something to eat.

Love's Gas Station at 4628 S. Main St.

Many of these favored gas stations have actual restaurants inside the same building or attached, and Love's in Rockford (and Roscoe) have Hardee's restaurants attached.

BP Gas Station at 1824 E. Riverside Blvd

Inside the gas station, you'll find Da Catch Fish, Chicken & Grill. No matter what you order, don't skip the hush puppies.

Shell Gas Station at 430 W. Harrison Ave

Inside the same building as the Shell is Smoke House Barbeque.

Quick Trip (QT) at 8070 E. State St

I'm a long-time fan of the other gas station that spells it Kwik Trip and that may be the biggest reason I have yet to stop into Quick Trip across from the Hard Rock Casino. Rumor has it that QT not only rivals KT, it could outrank the next gas station that came in #1.

Casey's General Store (several Rockford area locations)

Casey's donut game is pretty stellar, what is most amazing about the food here is the pizza. How is a gas station's pizza this damn good? The breakfast pizza is outstanding
