Garage sale season is my favorite time of year—until your sale is over and you're stuck with all the leftovers that nobody wanted to buy.

I've been there: I have a garage sale, mark everything as cheap as possible, even put free on a lot of stuff, and I still have stuff to pack up and donate somewhere or toss to the curb.

Hear me out, though!  Before you decide to put the rest of it on the curb for garbage pickup, why not keep it all out of landfills and donate it somewhere that would really appreciate it?  I'm not talking Goodwill or Salvation Army—think even more local.

Where To Donate Your Garage Sale Leftovers in Rockford

As much as I thrift in Rockford, I try my best to donate to these places:

  • Carpenter's Corner
  • A Mother's Love
  • Rockford Rescue Mission
  • Sharestuff

Oh, and I can't forget!  One of the thrift stores I frequent the most, the Rockford Restore.

I saw on Facebook they shared a great way to keep your unwanted items out of landfills.  They're looking for all your garage sale leftovers!

"Just wrapped up a garage sale and wondering what to do with the items that didn’t sell? Let Habitat for Humanity ReStore help! We accept a wide variety of gently used items—furniture, home décor, appliances, tools, outdoor furniture, cabinets, and more. Best part? We offer FREE pick-up for qualifying items in the Rockford area!" [Rockford Restore]
I'm not sure I know of other thrift stores that also pick-up larger items for free around the Rockford area.  That's a total bonus, seriously.

So, if you've never been to the Rockford Restore, maybe it's a sign you need to visit!  There are so many local thrift shops around town, you could totally make a weekend out of it!  When you're ready to declutter and find a new home for your garage sale leftovers, skip the trash bags and find a thrift shop, like the Rockford Restore, to give your stuff a second chance at life!
