Popular Illinois Music Festival Announces Major Headliner Change

A changeup is coming to a beloved music festival in Chicago.

Lollapalooza is celebrating it's 20th year this summer. It started run in Chicago in 2005 and this year will be from August 1st-4th. Headliners were announced in March, including major names like SZA, Blink-182, The Killers, Future X, Metro Boomin, Hozier, Melanie Martinez, Stray Kids, and Skrillex.

According to a post from Lollapalooza on Facebook, Tyler, The Creator, who was set to perform on August 1st, will not be attending this year. Instead, Megan Thee Stallion will headline that day along with Hozier.

The announcement from Lollapalooza came just minutes after Tyler, the Creator announced it himself on X, formerly known as Twitter. He pulled out of not only Lollapalooza, but also Outside Lands, a festival the week after in San Francisco. The tweet did not give a reason why.

As you can imagine, the news is met with mixed reactions. But what is for sure is that the festival isn't leaving Chicago anytime soon. Recently, Lollapalooza has agreed to another 10-year contract with the city of Chicago to keep the festival there, according to NBC Chicago. But there is a level of crowd control involved: the contract says that the number of festival attendees, at any time, cannot exceed 115,000. The festival will be at Grant Park.

The lineup for Lolla in 2023 included around 40 artists every day, including Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. You can see the full lineup of artists playing Lollapalooza this year on their website.
