Over 150 Underage Patrons Were Found At One Wisconsin Bar
A little bit of trouble is on tap for a certain bar.
In college, there were definitely certain bars you could get into even if you were underage. You knew which ones they were and you (along with the bouncers and bar staff) also knew to be sneaky about it. The era of fake ID's.
One bar in Madison, Wisconsin (go figure, a college town) was busted a couple of weeks ago for having 150 underage patrons in the bar at once.
The release from Madison Police says the bar check was at 10:21 p.m. on 9/5/24.
First issue: this is over 50% of the bar's lawful capacity.
Second issue: you can't be under 21 and be drinking inside a bar. Duh.
Interestingly, according to the police, several of the underage kids that were caught at the bar have been cited before (and will be again). Maybe lay off going to bars for a bit, guys?
Those citations get expensive, definitely more than I would've been able to afford in college. The most common citations listed in bar checks in Madison are:
- Underage Person Not to Possess or Consume Alcohol Beverage on Licensed Premises
- Fine: $376-$1006
- Underage Person Enters or Attempts to Enter Licensed Premises
- Fine: $376-$1006
- Underage Person Intentionally Carrying ID Not Theirs or Carrying Altered or Duplicated to Convey False Information
- Fine: $376-$1006
- Resisting Arrest or Obstructing
- Fine: $439
That could be up to $3,000+ you're paying for getting caught in a bar check. No thank you. That would be the point I'd just go to someone's house to drink, it's not worth risking the bar check.
Madison police advise you to just drop the act if you do get caught in a bar check. Don't try to give them your fake ID and just be honest with the officers.
