Death in Illinois, Sickness in Missouri from Deli Meat Listeria
An outbreak of listeria believed to be connected to deli meat has become even more serious as there is now 1 death in Illinois and also sicknesses in Missouri and other states.
The CDC just issued this urgent bulletin alerting anyone who has purchased deli meat recently that there is a sudden listeria outbreak that is believed to be connected to that deli meat. There are 28 hospitalizations that are a part of this outbreak and 2 deaths and ABC 7 in Chicago is confirming that one of these deaths is in Illinois. Sicknesses also reported in Missouri as the CDC map shows.
The CDC said "Many people in this outbreak are reporting eating meats that they had sliced at deli counters". The go on to say that listeria is especially dangerous "if you are pregnant, are aged 65 or older, or have a weakened immune system".
