I don't agree with much I find on the internet, but I think they got this one right. One small town in Illinois has just been declared one of the worst in America. My only question was whether it really qualified as a small town. Let's see if you agree.

I first saw Study Finds drop an article about some research that WalletHub just completed. It's a brand new ranking of the best small cities in America which also reveals the worst, too. Spoiler Alert - Don't bother trying to scroll down to find this Illinois place. You might hurt your hand.

What Illinois place was just crowned as one of the worst small cities in America?

Congratulations (probably the wrong word) to East St. Louis, Illinois, near the very bottom of all the cities in America. It's #1296 among American places. Salute.

My first response to seeing this was to question whether East St. Louis really qualifies as a "small city" and I was reminded by Wikipedia that the population in East St. Louis, Illinois has now fallen all the way down to barely over 17,000 who call that poor part of Illinois home.

As I shared recently, the Illinois State Police just completed a sting operation in East St. Louis taking down numerous violent offenders. No surprise in this Illinois place that has sadly become the haven of crime and tragedy.
