Social media in the Northern Illinois region was buzzing with news of a small pizza joint permanently closing.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a slew of businesses that never recovered from the financial devastation caused by being forced to shut down temporarily. Is this the case for a family-owned pizza joint in Illinois?

RUMOR VS. FACT

Manuel Salgado, the creator of one of my favorite social media accounts, Manny's Mexican Minute, was the first to report the sad news out of Belvidere, Illinois.

Sad news today we heard that DiCellos in Belvidere has now closed its doors.

While looking for confirmation that DiCello's Pizza, at 1925 Union Avenue, is officially closed for good I came across this note let on the restaurant's fan page by a fan.

Rumors…. All rumors wait until Michelle & DAVE make a offical announcement… all the sign says now is closed for staff reason and revaping. .. . do time we will all know…

Is DiCello's really closed?

Their website, which is still visible as of this article, makes no mention of the closure. The restaurant's Facebook account doesn't mention closing either.

So what is the status?

As a last-ditch effort to determine the validity of Salgado's post I contacted DiCello's directly by phone.

After several rings callers are greeted with a heartfelt voice greeting, recorded by the owner, thanking the community for their support and confirming the restaurant has indeed permanently closed.

It truly is sad news for Belvidere, the community, and surrounding foodies like Manny, myself, and many more.
