Scot and I had a real eye-opening conversation this morning with Joanne Samuel Goldblum, executive director of the National Diaper Bank network, regarding the struggles so many families go through simply to put their babies in diapers. Some of her surprising revelations:

  • Food Stamps cannot be used to buy diapers
  • 1 out of every 3 families struggle to buy diapers
  • Many parents have to choose between food and diapers
  • Parents are often forced to reuse diapers
  • Babies without diapers are often turned away from daycare
  • Moms without daycare can't go to work
  • Lack of diaper access in the home can lead to tension in the home, which can turn to child abuse and neglect.

The National Diaper Bank Network is working hard to ensure every baby in America has enough diapers to remain clean, dry and healthy. They're working to educate the public about the devastating crisis of diaper need, to support and expand upon the number of diaper banks across the country, and to build national corporate partnerships to supply the network with bulk donations and bulk purchasing of diapers.
