1440 WROK wants to know who is the best of the best in the stateline area all through this winter sports season.

Every Friday we'll announce 1440 WROK's Team of the Week. Each winning team will receive a $100 Visa gift card to use towards their program. At the end of the winter season, all weekly winners will go against each other in a final vote to crown our "Team of the Winter" and more importantly receive a $500 Visa gift card to use toward their program.

After one week, we are happy to announce that the East Varsity Boy's Basketball team is our first Team of the Week. They narrowly edged out basketball teams from Hononegah and Boylan to claim our first $100 Visa gift card for their program.

The E-Rabs had a strong showing in the RPS 205 Shootout over the Thanksgiving weekend, going 3-1 for the event. The East team's only loss was to the eventual champions, and state powerhouse, East St. Louis. The E-Rabs had an impressive win over Elgin Larkin for their best victory of the season.

The E-Rabs have another strong test Friday night when they travel to Boylan for the first weekend of the young NIC-10 season. They beat the Titans in our poll, can they do it on the hardwood as well?

We will be broadcasting this game live. Joe Dredge, Dave Perrone, and special guest Double T from 96.7 The Eagle will be calling the game. Pregame will be at 715 with tipoff scheduled for 730PM.

Do you have a local team that you think deserves the Team of the Week title next Friday? The details are below.

BUT!!

Before we get to the details. A HUGE thank you goes out to Rock Valley College for sponsoring this and helping us get this program off the ground.

So, who is eligible to enter the contest?

Literally any area high school team that is participating in an IHSA sanctioned sport.

That includes:

  • Boys and Girls Basketball
  • Boys and Girls Bowling
  • Competitive Cheerleading
  • Competitive Dance
  • Boys Swimming and Diving
  • Wrestling

How does the contest work?

Great question. We will take nominations over each weekend starting today. On Monday, we will go through the nominations and select our finalists. Then on Monday a post will go up on 1440WROK.com where fans and supporters can go and vote for their team through midnight that Thursday. On Friday we will announce the winner during the morning show.

Rinse and repeat through the rest of the season. We will take a 2 week break for Christmas and the final weekly winner will be for the week of February 28th- March 2nd. The $500 winner will be voted on the following week.

How do I submit a team?

Another excellent question. Each week, we will put up a new post with a submission form. The one below is for this week's contest. You have until Sunday night to nominate your team. We will put up a poll on Monday and announce the winner on Friday. Then we do the whole thing over again starting next week.
