After recent budget cuts forced the county to lay off some officers, Winnebago needs to fill three corrections officers as soon as possible.

MyStateline - (Sherriff) Caruana says he needs more deputies to fulfill daily operations at his department, amid calls from the County Board to cut the Sheriff's operating budget by more than $4 million.

Despite setbacks, there is a need to hire three corrections officers immediately, and establish a list of potential candidates for future hires as Sheriff's Deputies.

One main duty of the newly hired officers will be to serve Order of Protection notices for cases involving domestic disputes.

Sherriff Caruana is worried about what will happen if he doesn't have enough officers to fill those roles.

If I, or anybody else, takes...those deputies off the street, there will be severe consequences to providing service.
