Okay, quick bit of honesty: I am never, ever going to put on a wingsuit and jump from anything higher than an ottoman. Just wanted to make clear that, although I think wingsuits are really cool and completely fascinating, I want nothing to do with one whatsoever.

I was looking forward to the Discovery Channel TV special featuring daredevil Joby Ogwyn, who had planned to leap off of Mount Everest wearing his wingsuit. After the horrible avalanche last week that killed 13 people, Discovery Channel announced they were pulling the plug on the special, "in light of the overwhelming tragedy" and out of respect for the families of the dead." According to CNN:

It was unclear Monday night whether climber and parachutist Joby Ogwyn still planned to leap off the top of the world's highest peak after his guides died in last week's avalanche that killed 13 people. At first, the stuntman told his fans on Facebook that he was sticking with his plans even though his Sherpas were killed. Ogwyn wrote Sunday that he and his team "are staying on the mountain to honor our friends and complete our project." But the post appeared to have been deleted Monday.

I think it was a proper and respectful decision by the network. Whether or not he goes ahead with his planned jump off of Everest, rest assured you'll be seeing and hearing about wingsuit adventurers leaping off mountains, buildings, and bridges more and more in the future.

Anyone who's ever dreamed of flying, Superman-like, at crazy speeds over beautiful geography (even if, like me, it would take large, armed men to make them do it), can appreciate the footage available all over the internet.
