The highly contagious disease has been reported at a District 205 school. At the moment we don't know if it's a student or faculty member.

Whooping Cough Has Been Diagnosed At a Rockford Middle School

According to a report from mystateline.com, a person at Rockford's RESA Middle School has been diagnosed with Pertussis, which is also known as Whooping Cough.

Whooping cough is highly contagious through sneezing and coughing. Anyone is close proximity should be treated with antibiotics, even if they've been vaccinated.

In the Rockford School District's notification to parents, they warn to look for:

  • Runny nose
  • Sneezing
  • Low-grade fever
  • Coughing

If untreated, the symptoms could include vomiting. If you're seeing these symptoms, please contact your doctor immediately. And DO NOT send you child to school and DO NOT go to work.
