The Rockford area could see a white Christmas this year if the current weather patterns do not fluctuate.

The National Weather Service is predicting snow possibly mixed with rain on Wednesday. Their forecast is calling for an 80 percent chance of precipitation with 1 to 3 inches of snow.

A statement from the NWS warns of possible heavy, wet snow on Wednesday.

According to the statement, "there are growing indications that rain will change to a period of heavy, wet snow during the day Wednesday and possibly continuing into Wednesday evening over portions of Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana."

There also is a 30 percent chance of snow before midnight in the Rockford area.

No snow is in the forecast for Christmas Day. The National weather service is predicting partly sunny skies with a high near 37.
