Saturday, September 12th, will be a dog day in beautiful downtown Rockton, and I mean that in the best possible way. That's the date for the 3rd annual Mellany's Dog Walk to benefit Rockford Memorial Hospital's Pet Therapy Program and The Rock River Valley Blood Center.

The dog walk is named in honor of Mellany McDuffa, a longtime employee of RMH. After Mellany was taken far too soon by ovarian cancer, a memorial fund was set up in her name to fund the pet therapy program. This year, organizers will be donating some of the proceeds to the Rock River Valley Blood Center, because so many cancer patients need blood during the course of their chemotherapy treatments.

It's a day full of live music, prizes, treats (and water) for the dogs and their human companions. Dogs will love the fact that they get a coupon for a free puppy cone from DairyHaus Ice Cream in Rockton.

It's only $20 per person, and you don't even need to bring a dog to attend. For more information on Mellany's Dog Walk, click here.
