Perhaps you've heard of these new ride sharing platforms like Uber, but don't know exactly how the process works or why you should be concerned.

Earlier this week Riley & I were joined by Uber Chicago general manager Chris Taylor to shed some light on what his company actually does and why it might be in danger. In short, Uber connect passengers with drivers of vehicles for hire and ridesharing services in dozens of cities around the world. Cars are reserved by sending a text message or by using a mobile app. In the interview, Taylor explains how drivers are hired and why more and more commuters are choosing the service.

Taylor says he'd love to expand service to include areas like Rockford, but at the moment there's a hurdle to be overcome. Currently a bill sits on Governor Quinn's desk that Uber says would harm the future expansion plans. He claims the bill would restrict the number of drivers who could become rideshare partners, add red tape to the process of becoming a driver, and applying unneeded insurance standards to the company.

No word yet on what the Governor might do. You can hear the whole interview here:
