The Rockford police are looking for help in identifying this vehicle that was used during the fatal shooting at CherryVale Mall on February 23rd earlier this year.

On Friday, February 23, 2018, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Detectives opened a homicide investigation stemming from a shooting incident that occurred at the Cherry Vale Mall. Ricky Smith, age 31, of Dekalb, IL, died of gunshot wounds while driving in the parking lot of the mall.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the public’s assistance in obtaining information on the incident. The Sheriff’s Department is searching for a gold or tan GMC Yukon that was involved in the incident. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity and/or whereabouts of the suspected vehicle is urged to contact the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department at 815-319-6300 or Rockford Area Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.

Crime Stoppers has had great success in the past when they aggressively search for someone. Hopefully, this campaign will get another bad person off the street.
